Just finished watching Oliver Stone's documentary South of the Border. i thought it was interesting as we barely hear these leaders talk. all we hear is what others think about their policies or certain quotes that make them out to be dictators or enemies. its refreshing to hear the other side of many controversial events that have happened through my lifetime. As a Puerto Rican, i have the advantage of always hearing both sides from the US point of view and the Latin American perspective. It's amazing that someone like Oliver Stone is interested in these charismatic leaders that like it or not have improved their countries. I may not agree with Hugo Chavez but there are some things that he mentioned that I agree with. It showed these leaders humanity and why the "left wing" has been so successful in these diverse countries. Like Christina Fernandez, president of Argentina states that for the first time the leaders resemble the people of the country u think of Evo u think he looks for sure like a Bolivian. thats an improvement. Many say this documentary is purely propaganda it might be but that doesn't change the events or the progress of many of these countries. I don't agree with a lot of their policies but I have to give credit where its due. It seems the Bolivarians-how they are called who base their policies on Simon Bolivar, are here to stay.
